Can anyone suggest 1-3 directories for each aggregator that one could use to verify when the aggregator citation has propagated out to those sites? They would have to be directories that exclusively use that aggregator.

At first glance this is what I've come up with:

Factual - Apple (Maps I assume)

Axciom - ???

Infogroup (ExpressUpdate) - CitySearch, AOL Local

Localeze - Kudzu, GetFave

Are you familiar with the Local Search Ecosystem? https://whitespark.ca/local-search-ecosystem/

Does that help?

Regarding the Ecosystem, I am very familiar with that diagram. But I don't think it's a very good information source in light of the specific question I'm asking. Trying to follow all those lines to determine who feeds what and more importantly who gets fed from only one aggregator, is a pretty inefficient method of doing it, wouldn't you agree? Especially when someone else (Moz) may have already done the work for you.

Moz - The U.S. Local Search Ecosystem (scroll down)

Problem with this page is it looks pretty darn outdated. Hence why I came here to ask the question in the first place so get further input.

Regarding Apple, I was aware of that, but if the business wasn't listed when you submitted to Factual it would probably be a pretty reliable indication that Factual propagated to them once the listing appears. Maybe there's a chance someone would submit it in the meantime, but other than the business owners and/or their hired marketing people, realistically, I would bet that it's pretty relatively rare for an individual user who has no affiliation with the business to add it themselves. But again, that's why I asked the question. Additional suggestions on other outlets to check for Factual propagation other than Apple would be of course helpful.

Did you know that the latest local search ecosystem on Whitespark is dynamic? Click on any segment in the donut chart to clear all the lines from other sites so you can only see the sites that feed that site. Or, to see the sites that the aggregator sends data to.

Moz's ecosystem is older and out of date.

We have an update for the ecosystem in the works.

I discovered this when I first saw it but it's been so long since I looked at it, at a quick glance, I totally forgot it was dynamic! That makes things considerably easier to hash out. Thanks!

So here's the results based on Whitespark for anyone intersted.

Exclusive confirmed relationships:

Localeze: YaSabe
Axciom: Local.com
Infogroup: Dexknows, Whitepages
Factual: none (on Whitespark diagram) but Apple does not appear to be listed (at least individually)

That all looks good if it is accurate.

Acxiom is a lot easier to track because SO MANY of their partners post "Data by Acxiom" in the footer. In fact, you could look at their inbound links via majestic or ahrefs and probably find a ton.

Localeze has the same thing to an extent I believe as Acxiom. You might be able to reverse engineer them as well.

Whitepages, 411.com (and there is another) are all the same people. And they are fed by ExpressUpdate exclusively (besides Yext) last time I checked. Also, the last time I checked so was Citysearch exclusively but you should double check that.

For Factual, I don't think I would use Apple Maps. Apple Maps is fed by a few different sources I believe, the least of which is Yelp, who I think is their major provider. You could always tell if the listing was Yelp or not but 9/10 all listings, unless self published, are going to come from Yelp. I would try to to find a different site maybe. Maybe not.

Without knowing your goals, I think maybe the best idea would be to look up a couple of businesses on each database and find an independent record. Either a listing that one has that none of the others have OR a unique listing where maybe ExpressUpdate uses a different formatting of a name than the others do. You could then do a search in Google for that.

What are you looking to learn in all this by the way? Publishing times?
