Study says Schema Markup displays in 36% of Google Search results

Check out the comments in the blog post. Shari makes a good point about Schema being too technocentric and not about the user experience.

Schema Markup Shows In 36% Of Google Search Results, But Almost No Websites Use It [STUDY]

More than one-third of Google’s search results incorporate Schema.org rich snippets, but only a tiny fraction of websites are actually using the markup code.
That’s according to a new Searchmetrics study out today that examined Google’s U.S. search results in March “for tens of thousands of keywords and over half a million web domains.”

re: Study says Schema Markup displays in 36% of Google Search results

    Good share.

Actually, if I understand her points correctly, I disagree with her comments and agree with those responding to her.

Schema markup is not difficult to employ, especially with so many DIY tools available.

I also don't understand why she claims that Schema affects user experience since Schema is code markup and for the most part unseen on the front end.

    She says:

There are no professional information architects, usability professionals, GUI professionals, etc. in the schema.org group to keep the focus on users.
Again, schema is code that wraps around specific content to make it easier for search engines to read and identify portions of a site. Schema does not directly impact the arrangement or design of a site.

Now I definitely believe UX is a field every web developer should be familiar with. I'm probably misunderstanding something.

And I'll close by saying that it's a great thing that most businesses aren't using schema. That gives those businesses that ARE using it a huge advantage

Thanks Justin that was another I wanted to share here before I got too sick and had to go back to bed.

But I had not read it, just saw title and summary.

So I'm glad you broke it down for folks Patrick and I agree with all you said! Thanks for coming over to weigh in. Don't be a stranger.

Thanks Linda. Glad you agree. Hope things are going well!

My very-late new years resolution is to spend more time here. Something I've been meaning to do for so long. But you know how it is when things get busy

In regards to user experience issues and using the DIY tools, I think she might be referring to the way Schema Location Markup displays. oh. Love the name KungFuBacklinks.

    lol

Ah well, yes. Certain tools have a set style when spitting out the code you need, but that's no fault of Schema.org

I write the schema for certain things by hand because it's a lot easier to manipulate the styling.
