Matt Cutts confirms new Panda 4.0 Google Algo Update

This new update is targeting "Very spammy queries" and is related to the Payday Loan Algorithm launched in May of last year. Is anyone seeing any shifting going on ? Here is the announcement on Twitter

Official: Google Payday Loan Algorithm 2.0 Launched: Targets “Very Spammy Queries”

Google has confirmed they have released a new algorithm update to their Payday Loan Algorithm update over this weekend.
This algorithm specifically targets “very spammy queries” and is unrelated to the Pandaor Penguin algorithms. A Google spokesperson told us:
Over the weekend we began rolling out a new algorithmic update. The update was neither Panda nor Penguin — it was the next generation of an algorithm that originally rolled out last summer for very spammy queries.

And here is another post on the latest updates...

Google Starts Rolling Out Panda 4.0

Search Engine Land reports that Panda 4.0 will affect different languages to different degrees, as such updates always have. For instance, about 7.5 percent of queries made in English are affected to a degree.

While there aren’t that many details about what the Panda update entails, in a previous statement, Matt Cutts explained that it could help small businesses rank higher in search results. Basically, Google was planning at the time to soften Panda in a manner that would give smaller companies a chance to make themselves seen.

Many small business owners have complained over time about the Panda algorithm, saying that their sites have more or less vanished from search results. Some went as far as comparing the changes to getting their businesses burnt down, or nuked.

Google has advised sites to provide high quality original content and to keep design and navigation options clean and well structured. Cramming up keywords for the sake of rankings won’t take anyone very high up in the results pages anymore, while other SEO tricks are also punished by the Internet giant.

I only checked a couple queries but the same spammy local listings are in the pack.

Checked the local weather report and there was a slight uptick yesterday.

Anyone seeing any movement in local rankings?

Google Begins Rolling Out Panda 4.0 Now

I'm think I'll change the title of this post from Payday Loan algo to Panda 4.0. Think more here will be able to relate to it. Payday Loan sounds like it only applies to affiliate sites.

And I'm confused, and have not had time to read everything.

Do you think there are 2 different updates Justin or do you think it's the same one and people are referring to it by 2 diff names?

Re: Matt Cutts confirms new Panda 4.0 Google Algo Update

Love the analogies in this Forbes article.

Evolution In Action; Google's New Panda 4.0 Rollout

It was Matt Ridley who popularised the idea that evolution is rather like the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland. Itís necessary to run ever faster in order to stand still. The point being that the various parasites which attack any life form or species do themselves get better at doing so over the generations. Not by any method of planning of course, itís just that thereís random mutation and those that acquire a useful such mutation, one that allows them to attack a host more effectively, go on to have more descendants that have this mutation.

And so it is here with Google and that Panda 4.0 update. Google believes that those low-level spam page creators are damaging to the Google search product. Thus they are continually changing the algos in order to protect against such parasites. And, of course, the parasites are continually changing their tactics in reaction to Googleís changes: running ever faster just to stand still.
