Impact on GMB profile on traffic

Oh, you're not saying that GA doesn't report traffic through GMB clicks. You meant that they're getting the info they need right there (phone, hours, address, etc.) and not clicking through to the website period? Yeah, that makes total sense. You could verify it by looking at GSC search terms...

Is a SBB targeting a town 20 miles away realistic?

Just skimmed this but if it's a high competitive market (more than 3-5 semi SEO'd companies) then ranking in the local pack is probably not going to happen. But organic is wide open.

    Too many landing pages?

We used to do this and just stopped. We saw some pretty strong evidence that it was hurting ranking. The Doorway Page algorithm could have been the culprit.

What tool do you use for tracking keywords in multiple locations?

I always vote for Places Scout. I feel like a broken record though :)

    Benefit to removing hours?

Sorry, the guidelines question was for Colan. He and Joy are experts are on the guidelines so I figured he would know the answer. I also think that's a question for Colan since he brought it up. I'm guessing he is thinking not showing hours would not be helpful to users but could be totally off...

Click thru rates for Local Pack and Local Finder, by position, by device

While that may be true (I have no idea), it's the best data we have and using microworkers wouldn't skew it so bad to the point that it isn't worth using. Sure it may be off +/- 10% but there would still be valuable insights to gain from it.

Impact on GMB profile on traffic

I don't think the drop in traffic was because of the GMB page.

    Lead referrals

Working out an affiliate marketing deal with an SEO company might be difficult in the details. How much you get paid, how you track it, etc. because you will probably have to custom create that vs affiliate market places which handle all of that already. But it can be done. If you really don't...

    Benefit to removing hours?

Is it against guidelines to put your hours if you're "by appointment only"? I would hope not. I agree with Colan's initial assessment, I'd just extend it to the hours she wants to answer calls. Will that work?

Impact on GMB profile on traffic

Unless you're using a segment, shouldn't GMB traffic be counted in "organic" in GA? If not and there's no place for GMB traffic in GA (which is really surprising to me), we "recover" it through UTM's. Maybe I'm missing something here. If I am, my bad.

Ask BrightLocal to look at that in their next click through survey @Myles Anderson

    DA & Citation/Review Site Value

I agree with everything you said. I also think it's about leverage. To me, if it costs $10 per directory, do I want to be put on 350 directories? No. If it costs 1 cent, do I want to be put on 350 directories even if their metrics (DA, etc.) are low? Absolutely. The same goes for time. If it...

    Local service question

We have customers ask us about this a lot with out business listing service. The truth is you can put yourself on sites that allow you to hide your address but honestly: 1) No customer is probably every going to come to your house, no matter how pissed they are 2) Even if you do get a customer...

    Too much home page text?

Hey Rich, if it's a YMYL website I wouldn't move the bios or history. Maybe shorten them and link to the full content on another page. Unless I've misunderstood something from Marie Haynes, it's important to have that information on the homepage in some capacity.

    Too much home page text?

I'm not hung up on keyword density anymore. I'm not sure how much of a factor that really is. I think it's likely Google has a better way now to determine the relevance of a page to a keyword search. True on mobile. I'd probably shorten it to what is necessary and remove what detracts and then...

    Whitepages.com

Whitepages and their partner directories may not be updating at all anymore. I have a client whose info hasn't changed in a long, long time. Surprised to hear Yext dropped them. Weird, right? I had the same experience with InfoGroup. They take things really personal it seems like and have a...

I Had Supposed SEO GURU Say I Was Messing Up His Clients SEO Work.

If you're talking about organic rankings, then I would say the best SEO won. Sure, you may have caused Google to choose between you site and his site but I'm tempted to say Google chose yours for a reason. I'm not saying it was a good idea to do this because of the problems it sounds like he is...

    Definitely second this.
  24. JoshuaMackens

    Too much home page text?

That wouldn't be my first concern. I don't think there's such a thing as too much homepage text as long as it's relevant. And all of that sounds relevant. Just make sure the keywords are where they should be and I think you're fine. I'd remove any text you find unnecessary to a user that lands...

Understanding Traffic From Blog Articles. Is it helping Locally?

I believe Marie Haynes was saying something to the effect that if you're not updating your blogs for a YMYL website on a consistent basis (not adding new blog, updating old ones) that it could be an issue for your site down the road. @Marie Haynes can you chime in on this?

Unable to Add Free Listing To YP Due To "Thryv.com" sales.

Yeah, if they add the listing just know you'll have to go into ad solutions (providing you also claim it while on the phone, as you always should) and change it later. On the dupe, just call back in and ask them to "supress" the dupe. That's their code for removing duplicates. They should have...

Understanding Traffic From Blog Articles. Is it helping Locally?

We've talked about this at length on the forum a few times. The short version is no, it doesn't. Hopefully someone will come and post some links to those discussions. When you report to your clients, I would report with a segment that nails down the region to state level (if it's a big state...

Unable to Add Free Listing To YP Due To "Thryv.com" sales.

I've been able to add 1-2 listing in the last few weeks so I think we're good. I am using the call support method though. I think he's trying that method now. But I am curious to see what reps tell him vs what they tell me haha.

Huge News: A New Way to Report Spam on Google My Business

I could see this being done effectively for agencies that don't want to take the time and know you're the expert at it and you'll have a much better success rate than they will. Just factor into your price the fact that some of them will be reinstated. So if you would charge $90 for listing...

Technical: Search Console ignoring "Do not index" directives?

That may be the problem. Maybe Google is honoring the noindex, only it just now showed up. So they're dropping it from the index. I can tell you from experience that takes a long time sometimes. Months. Yeah, I'm not sure how to do it either. If it's in a subdirectory you can do it. I did it...

New Google My Business Home Layout Rollling out - With GSuite Gmail Upsell

Now THAT makes a lot of sense. Any idea what the issue is? Not being paid enough, not happy with the culture, promotion?
  36. JoshuaMackens

Technical: Search Console ignoring "Do not index" directives?

    1) Google seems to deindex slowly. Did you accidentally allow them to be indexed and you're now waiting for them to drop from the index? 2) Have you tried using a header for no index?

Unable to Add Free Listing To YP Due To "Thryv.com" sales.

YP is fraught with issues. Probably more than any other local business website. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and once they fix the bug that didn't work another comes along. Last week I had the same issue you had, refresh of the business listing add process. It's a new bug. Call...

    Customer Heat Map

I actually ended up using Zeemaps and created a map of all of the jobs the customer had done and then used their logo as a pin instead of a map marker. $19 per month. Just used it for one month to generate the maps I needed. Pretty cool.

Any solo guys/gals that host/maintain websites for clients?

If you're mainly a Local SEO company I would recommend getting out of the hosting business and find a website company you can trust. Troubleshooting hosting and email issues really take time away from Local SEO tasks that you're likely getting paid way more for. We started out hosting and...

I only skimmed this thread so if I say something that doesn't make sense, forgive me. I would not base my second location on SEO. Google could change proximity ranking influence tomorrow and now you chose your 2nd location for a reason that is null. It's the same thing with branding. People...

Best Approach to Claiming Yelp for Enterprise Organizations
