Question Multiple Google+ Business Pages? Local & National?

    Related to this question:

If you are a single business and you market locally AND nationally (from your local address) -
Do you set up 2 Google+ pages? Or just the single Google+ Local Page?

If I had 2 outlets that sold nationally, I would have 2 Google+ Local Pages and one Google+ Page - correct?

    Regards

Re: Multiple Google+ Business Pages? Local & National?

    Hi Ian,

    You posted in this thread:
    http://localsearchforum.catalystemar...e-profile.html

But I moved your question to a new thread with more descriptive subject, because this is really a totally different topic.

There are so many gray areas, not sure I can answer without seeing the listings and better understanding the situation.

But in general with local you can only have one listing per location and it can't be an online only business. You must to business face to face locally.

If this is for your Internet marketing business, then Place pages don't normally show up as local listings, so you are left with organic rankings anyway.

When it comes to brand pages or national G+ business pages, I'm not as well versed in the options.

But I do know that multi-location LOCAL pages are not supported yet as far as merging with G+.

PLUS we are in middle of update and Google is auto-upgrading all Place pages to G+ pages so Google advises not merging with G+ now anyway and just waiting for the update.

Not sure that has addressed my question Linda.
Let's assume a person has a single national business.
He also has 2 outlets in City A and City B.

How many Google+ Pages should he have?

Re: Multiple Google+ Business Pages? Local & National?

Sorry Ian, as I said - I'm not as familiar with pure G+ and have been advising folks all along, as Google does, not to merge G+ Local pages with G+ business at yet. Plus Google says muli-location businesses are not supported to merge with G+. Plus I've never dealt with a company that is both local and national. So therefore, I've never dealt with this type of situation and am not sure.

This is why I moved to new post with more descriptive title, to hopefully get others who may have dealt with this type of situation to weigh in.

But again for G+ Local Google is saying wait don't merge AND multi-locations are not supported yet. So my guess is that if you do it now and do it wrong, then Google auto-upgrades the local pages, there could be something that goes wonky - possibly. Not sure and don't think anyone has a crystal ball right now.

He should have a G+ Business page for the national business and G+ Local pages for the local pages.

    Thanks Colan,
And for a national business that also sells locally?
A G+ Business Page and a single G+ Local Page?

Possibly, but as Linda said, there are grey areas and can't say for certain without knowing the exact situation.

But in general terms, if a business sells locally and see's customers face-to-face then it can have a G+ local page. That business could also have a G+ Business page, regardless of whether or not it also was able to get it's products to people outside of the city or state.

I don't think these details will really matter though once all pages are upgraded....I think.

Re: Multiple Google+ Business Pages? Local & National?

Ian - I think it just depends on you (or the company) as to how much they can tolerate, err... devote to managing this part of a social media strategy.

So in a way there is no right or wrong answer. A company with a full-time social media manger could probably handle 3 G+ pages. A small operation may simply not have the resources to effectively keep up with one.

Just because a business offers some of it's services nationally doesn't mean they need a Company G+ page in addition to the local page(s).

Like Linda said, Google plans to upgrade all Places Listings to G+, so the ability to share posts is coming sooner or later.

I would recommend that a client ease into G+ and take it for a spin first, but only after clarifying exactly how their social media marketing campaign fits within their overall marketing strategy.
