    Ranking for modified phrases

I'm stumped on how to rank for slightly modified phrases.

    For example...

    chicago dentist
    dentist in chicago

I see some sites consistently ranking for both and others just for one. And, in the description or title they do not even have the word "in".

    Any tips or thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Re: Ranking for modified phrases

    Hi Mike,

There are already big rankings difference between searches on

    dentist in chicago

    and

    dentist chicago

for google each phrase is a different keyword

For understanding why the rankings are different you shall do an OnSite ( keywords density analysis ) and OffSite ( anchor text analysis ) - most probably each of those site are better optimized for the exact match keywords

It would be related to your keywords on site, keyword anchor text off site, as well as the keywords in the content from the external linked pages.
