I think it must be making AMEX $$$$ for them to continue doing it.

Do you think AMEX is profiting off unpaid balances over the long haul or viewing it as an advertising expense?

Notes: Card carriers have until Sat to enroll - Must Enroll at shopsmall.com before cardmember is eligible.

AMEX has embraced Foursquare by sponsoring deals for consumers paying for meals (see it mainly at resturants) using their AMEX card. My guess is AMEX is trying to effectively market and increase their bottom line by differentiating themseves from VISA + MC.

But to answer your question - both!

Re: Small Business Saturday Set To Help Local Merchants

This is such a good idea. We have one client who is giving away a free gift on Saturday with each order placed on her small business website. She is not, per se, a local business owner, though.

It's not only good for the community to support small local businesses, but it is usually a much happier shopping experience. The advent of the big box stores means we end up shopping in warehouses...an outing devoid of charm. The small business often retains some of the pleasantness we remember from bygone days. I really appreciate that.
