Is Map Maker Importing E-mails from Places Dash?

Just made an interesting observation in Map Maker. It looks like one of the Automated Internal Syncer's are importing the e-mail that is associated with a business listings corresponding places account.

Is this an attempt at making Google+ Local and Map Maker more harmonious?

re: Is Map Maker Importing E-mails from Places Dash?

Correction: It looks like the e-mail is actually being pulled from the Dashboard of the places account. Not from the e-mail associated with the account.

I just observed a listing that doesn't have the e-mail listed in the dashboard of the places account and the automated syncer has still somehow pulled in into the Map Maker listing. This tells me that A) it's pulling the e-mail form other sources or B)it's pulling it from another places account that the listing might be claimed in. If this is the case, this could be another way of detecting hidden merged dupes.

This is likely the result of fixing the Syncer bot as announced here. Previously e-mail addresses were being deleted after being added. I'll keep an eye out but I suspect they're likely sourcing public data for e-mail addresses. Nice catch!

Checking on a client in Map Maker and noticed that the Google Automated Internal Syncer 3

has imported a Yahoo e-mail that we use to manage some of the clients business directories.

Andrew, have you heard of this happening before?

I think this thread testifies to this happening before.

In this case, the Yahoo e-mail is not associated with the Google Places Account, as were the earlier examples.

Was there an example of a case similar to this that I missed?

Re: Is Map Maker Importing E-mails from Places Dash?

I thought I posted this in this thread OR maybe there is another we have going somewhere.

But I accused Google of having what I thought could be a serious privacy breach with this problem.

My case was a little different maybe. But one day maybe 2 months ago I saw a bot had added my Gmail email address to my MM record. In my case it WAS the email that manages my Places listing. AND I had never published it anywhere publicly before. AND that's where I get all my important email from Google management so DON'T want spam bots or getting that email.

Now all the time I am seeing emails being added. Sometimes it's the account email and sometimes not. One atty client I was consulting for just had a bot add 3 emails to his MM listing. So I thought same thing as Colan mentioned. Maybe this was indication that listing was claimed in other accounts.

Anyway, wherever it's getting these emails, I think this is could be a pretty serious privacy concern.

Who gave Google the right to publish any of your email addresses publicly for spam bots to get access to???

Colan, I'm confused how a Yahoo email address isn't associated with the Google Places Account but you wrote that it "we use to manage some of the clients business directories." Maybe it's not an address you specifically go in and add but you're providing it to Google as a contact email for the business. Which makes it part of the Dashboard if that's the email you've associated with the Dashboard. I'm not up on the ins-and-outs of managing a business with Places/+Local. It would be helpful if you could walk me through the steps of how that email got associated with the business listing and how it is being used to manage the listing.

Re: Is Map Maker Importing E-mails from Places Dash?

    I'll let Colan confirm...

But I took it to mean he didn't use the Yahoo anywhere in G+ but only used it to submit to 3rd party directories. In which case it sounds like maybe one of the directories is mistakenly including the account email in their Google feed.

There was a report awhile back. Can't remember the details - but something highly confidential, like credit rating or something was showing up on some listings. Turned out it was mistakenly being sent to Google in a 3rd party data feed.

You got it. The Yahoo e-mail isn't associated with the Google Places account in any way. It's used to manage 3rd party directories like Insider Pages, Kudzu...etc

I just checked and at some point a Google account was created with the Yahoo e-mail, but it doesn't have any Google products associated with it, such as G-mail or Places.
