    Retiring the Local News Bot

In the interest of promoting more sharing, last week I started retiring the news bots I created to pull posts from some of the leading blogs.

One of my goals this year is to get more people starting new threads and sharing more of the great content out there. I feel like sometimes folks think: "Linda will post about it" OR "the forums news bot will pick it up", so they don't post.

So instead of news feeds coming into the forum, I'm hoping more of you will hand pick the stories you feel are important, share them here and add your insights. Then it's YOUR voice (and your sig) doing the sharing instead of a bot.

Just give us the link and title of the story, quote a short paragraph if you like and give us your perspective if you have thoughts on the subject.

Or if short on time, simply drop a link and say "Did you guys see this? What do you think?"

Ya Phil, it seemed like a good idea at the time, but not so much now. Would rather have more organic sharing.

Plus not all the stories that came into the news forum belonged there. Some were about reviews or citations or whatever and would have been better in the respective forum.

    So yep Colan, RIP!

    Linda,

Etiquette on sharing other people's content seems self explanatory.

What are the rules for sharing our own content?

Re: Retiring the Local News Bot

Great question Joshua, thanks for asking.

Please see the self promotion part of the rules here.

This forum is really good about everything and we seldom have spam. I have been involved with other forums though where if you allow folks to link out then everyone mainly posts for traffic and backlinks and the most common conversations are just to say "check out my post" or "here's an article I wrote" or "visit my site to learn more."

So basically the rule here (and at most forums) is you should not link out to your own site or blog.

But I can link to it! So if you have something really share-worthy, just email or PM me details and let me be the one to post the link. Then you can come and comment or add to it if you want to.
