Major Expansion - Tons of New Forums Added

    Here we GROW again!

SEE IMPORTANT UPDATE about all the new changes POST #4

The forum is getting so big with so many important new topics added DAILY that it's getting hard to find things. Due to popular request we're going to do some re-organization. (Thanks for the nudge Don!)

Growth is a GREAT problem to have! When forums are new, you can't have too many individual topic areas or it doesn't work. So as content grows you need to gradually start dividing things into more categories to help organize everything.

I've been talking to the team and getting their input. We'll be adding MANY new subforums to keep things more organized based on the specific type of issue such as dupes, how to move a location, Google review problems, on-site Local SEO, local link building, to name JUST a few.
(I have a big list and am organizing, prioritizing and analyzing best structure now.)

A BIG focus will be to try to highlight "Best Of" and "How To" posts in each section. So for instance, if you get a new multi-location client you can just go right to that section and surface the best advice for that particular situation.

It's a ton of work and will roll out gradually, as I get time to work on it. It's not just building each new forum but then trying to find all the best threads to move into that section. (More balls for me to juggle).
So wanted to let you know I'll be moving furniture around a bit. But I'll try to make it logical so everything is easy to find.

But I wanted to let you guys know we are working on it.

PLUS if you have any ideas or suggestions for how to make the community better this might be a really good time to let us know in case it's something that could be incorporated as we expand and improve the forum.

Again this is YOUR community, so let us know what you need!

P.S. Have a super big treat in the works as well. Something that could help some of you maybe even get a few new clients. But it's a secret. And yes, I'm a big tease!

I'm doing MAJOR renovation today. Lots of moving, splitting, new forums, re-organizing.

TURN ON LIGHTS so you don't stub your toes on any furniture.

If you are here today things are kinda crazy and half done and I got stuff flying and changing all over the place. But by tomorrow we'll be nice and settled and I think it will be MUCH better organized.

Moved about a 100 threads so far. Tons more to do, but should be able to get most of the recent threads moved, just may not get to all the older ones. (My carpal is starting to yell at me and I'm less than 1/2 way done!)

Re: Major Expansion - Tons of New Forums Added

YAY and Whew! Finished most of the new forum expansion yesterday and added TONS of new forums which will make it much easier to find the info you need.

Look at "forum home" to see new structure.

Local Search Discussions | G+ L Discussions | Other Internet Marketing | Community

Those are the main categories, then below each main section I added child forums to break everything into bite sized topic areas such as on-site SEO, mobile, social and organic.

BADLY NEEDED - I BROKE OUT NEW FORUM for Google+ Local Discussions
    ,
then below it I added sub-forums for specific issues like:

    .:. NAP, Categories, Dashboard Data
    .:. Google Local Citations
    .:. Google Duplicates & Merges
    .:. Moving or Name Changes
    .:. Service Area Business Issues

All moved threads have a re-direct for at least a week to help you find where they moved BUT the sub cats I've picked I think are so well organized you should be able to find whatever you are looking for.

I moved over 100 posts but still have a lot more work to do, so you still may find older posts that are not moved into the right forum yet, but most of the current/newer posts I think are moved. Will try my best to finish all tonight.

KEEP IN MIND when looking for answers that some of the best advice is in individual replies in the HELP section. So if you are looking for help with dupes for example, even though the best THREADS have been moved to that section, there maybe great info buried in the help forum. So use the "Search Box" to help you uncover more help if you need it.

I have lots of other things in the works that will make this community even better. But I think this current expansion will help us get to the next level.

What do you think? Any other suggestions?

I'm warn out and based on response to this thread no one really cares anyway.

So I'm done! I'm not killing my carpal to continue to find and move all the old threads to the right place.

But do me a favor and if you see one of the really important how to or best practice threads that should be moved to one of the new forums, please just PM me.

Re: Major Expansion - Tons of New Forums Added

I don't think it's the case that no one cares. It's more likely

    1. that they're busy checking out the threads in topics of interest to them now that they're better categorized; or

    2. they're still trying to figure out what to get their significant others for Christmas.

But I've already found and moved some old posts into new forums/subforums and I'll continue to keep an eye out for those as I come across them.

Regarding the "how to" and "best practice" threads, did we decide that they'll just be stickied in their appropriate forums?

Thanks for finding/moving as you see them David.

The how to and best of - have not gotten there yet. That's a whole other level of time/work I just can't do now. BUT having things properly categorized will make it easier to do that. And Ya I think stickies is the way to go. (Have already done a few just not all.)

Only thing I have not figured out yet is how to handle how to and best of POSTS buried in other threads or forums.

For instance great advice about dupes comes up in a help thread. Ultimately I'd like to have a sticky in the dupe forum with links to other best advice posts. But that would take me doing all the finding, editing to add to those best of threads. And I just don't have any more time to do any more than I already am. So still a little stumped on that one. But I'll figure it out.

That could be handled by using the Copy Post moderation option. Give the post a new title and copy it to wherever - either the same forum or a different one; the original remains in the thread and if you wish you could also link back to the original thread from the copy.

True. But only you and I can do that so would still mainly be me doing it.

Maybe we should promote Colan to mod and train him so he can copy and move too!
He thinks just like I do and would notice the ones that qualify as well as I would.

He needn't be "promoted" as such. He could keep the same title and we just add moderator permissions so he can copy.
