    Banned from a G+ Community

So today I kinda got my feelings hurt I was banned from a G+ community.

This is the best way that I can show the conversation that took place. There was a question that I came across on my feed and began to answer. Not once did I expect or plan to gain a client, especially after she shared her budget. She posted her SEO question in the community at 1:16pm-

    https://plus.google.com/+ClareXantho...artnerid=gplp0

My comment before getting banned (and the one he removed) had links to this forum explaining that it was free to join and could answer a lot of the questions she already had, a link to the LocalU Blog, and a few others like searchengineland... Maybe that was against the rules?!

I can honestly say I was not trying to sell her on our services. I didn't even link to anything related to our website/blog for that specific reason.

Let me be the mistake you learn from, I guess.

Oh Amber, that stinks, I'm sorry.

I can't tell which post you are talking about so I don't know which community.

But likely they get so much spam and ban hammer happy mod is so frustrated they just nuke anyone new that drops a link.

Don't feel bad, just realize it's bound to happen sometimes and it's their loss, not yours. You were just being helpful.

(I was banned a lot back when I new to forums and I was just trying to be helpful too, which hurts I know.)

That is tough, I went and looked at some of the conversations and they do not appear to know what they are doing. One thing is for sure, we appreciate you around here and it is a better place for your knowledge anyways.

Re: Banned from a G+ Community

Well your replies end my day on a good note Thanks so much.

It was actually the owner of the community, Jim Munro, who banned me. This was his comment in response to me commenting that there are a number of blogs that she could learn from on a daily basis rather than paying for a book (b/c she mentioned she ordered an SEO book)-

I'm not sure that I agree with +Amber Robinson 's contention that an individual blog can safely be relied on. Consider that a community like this is peer-reviewed. I would be reluctant to bet my shirt on the basis of one person's opinion, or even a group opinion from one source. We put our answers out there and provide a means for them to be challenged. You can evaluate their worth by the responses.

I have removed Amber from this community on the basis that we do not permit touting for business here. I have nothing against seeking business, I think that's an honorable pursuit, but I also think touting is counter-productive to our aims here. I have also removed the comment that made this necessary.

I believe he is dead wrong. Just because a forum is peer policed doesn't mean the peers are credible in their opinions. Giving a link to a blog that the owner is most likely one of the top seo's in the world would be the most credible source of information.

In my opinion, good ridence of a waste of your time.

    Agree 100%!!

Thanks, again, for the understanding and kind words.

I will be sure to read all the details of community rules from here on out, though!

I don't see anywhere where you violated the group's guidelines. I was a member of that community some time ago, and eventually removed myself.

If you're looking for a good SEO community in G+ be sure to join the Technical SEO community. (Please Linda, don't remove and ban me for linking to a G+ community!! The horror! )

You are lucky Blake. My ban hammer happens to be broken today or you'd be out!

But cool thanks, that's a new one I had not discovered yet.
