Exclamation San Diego Fires - The May Firestorm

    Anyone else in San Diego?

The Santa Anas are really kicking up the wind and heat. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 102 in Escondido near where I live.

Kicked up a bunch of fires too. Here is the one that's closest to me. They just had to evacuate Cal State San Marcos. They also had to evacuate the San Onofre Power Plant.

Nothing is close enough for me to be in any danger or anything.
But due to my 7 1/2 week bout of Pneumonia, Dr said I need to stay in with air conditioner on.

Anyone else in San Diego area? If so, are you near any of the fires?

    Stay safe out there!

Re: San Diego Fires - The May Firestorm

There's a press conference right now. And I can't remember either the Mayor or Fire Chief said he suspects someone is setting all these fires. They aren't close enough that the wind could have carried sparks to set all the different fires.

He said in 27 years he's never seen 9 fires get started all in the same day, so finds it highly suspicious.
There have been 2 new ones since I printed that map.

Slight chance I'll lose power. Just wanted to mention in case I drop off.

There are lots of forced power outages all over the county to conserve power as a result of de-energization for public safety and system reliability.

Whoa, no wonder CSU evacuated. Didn't realize the fire was that close to campus.

OMG it jumped several miles and is near my daughters house and is right down by all the stores I shop at.

Melissa said if my balcony was on the other side of the building I'd totally be seeing flames from here.

I am out in East County.. nothing major, we had the smaller fire threaten a really nice home out here, but keeping fingers crossed for tomorrow. Usually we are the ones that have to deal with fires.

I am hoping you are staying safe and alert tonight, Linda. My prayers go out to you all up in North County.

Watching the news and its heart breaking to see all those beautiful communities burning up.

Hope things go well Linda. I fought wildfires for 10 years in that area. It can get messy when those winds pick up.

Here is a report that comes out daily from the officials called the Incident Management Situation Report. It will be more accurate than the news.

New evacuation Orders for San Marcos Fire

Another round of mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for a 700-acre fire that has burned at least four structures south of state Route 78 near Cal State San Marcos that was zero percent contained Thursday morning.

The so-called Cocos Fire -- initially designated the Washingtonia Fire -- broke out for unknown reasons in the area of Cocos Drive about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to Cal Fire. The state firefighting agency said early today it has confirmed that three structures were destroyed and one was damaged
    by the fire.

Thanks for all those resources Justin!

    You were a firefighter??? Wow!

Here's another resource for anyone in Socal that's trying to follow the fires.
San Diego County Emergency - Home

It's cool cuz it has several emergency Twitter feeds on one page.

And for anyone right in a fire zone, here are live fire and police scanner feeds:
    http://www.broadcastify.com/listen/ctid/219

I can hear them right now checking various areas for new smoke or fire.
