    Add business name in MM

I established a verified G+ Local business page for one of my physician clients. As is often the case with physicians, the G+ Local business page name is the physician's personal name. Keep in mind, the physician's practice has a name as well (e.g., Some Plastic Surgery Facility).

Now, here is where things get confusing... If I enter the street address in MapMaker or standard Google maps, the marker is located directly upon the building, but there is no business/building name associated with it - street address only on the marker. However, if I query using the physician's name, then I see the same building, same marker AND another smaller dot/square on the building which obviously represents the client's G+ local business page (e.g. it references physicians name, reviews, etc.)

My question: could there be any benefit to adding the practice name (e.g. Some Plastic Surgery Facility) to the address field in MapMaker? Or, would I risk convolution with the G+ Local listing which shares the same address/location? I actually, made the edit, which was pending, then reverted it when I began second-guessing my actions.

    Thanks!

I don't see a benefit or reason to and it seems it could mess it up if you put a name in the address field? In fact I believe in MM you can only select an address from the address drop down, don't think you can just add anything you want there. Disclaimer: MM is not my forte!

    Hi Linda,

Yeah, it does allow you to prefix a building name and I could see it in the "pending" edits. But since the G+ Local bus. listing utilized the doc's personal name - I grew a little wary.

I see one of our competitors has the building named AND has 3 separate G+ Local business listings associated with the same location (e.g. 1 for each doc and 1 for a med spa in the same building), consequently, they dominate blended, but they also have a very strong Domain Authority.

Not feeling good about the MM edit... think I will let it be for now ;-)

    Thanks!

Re: Add business name in MM

You're dealing with two separate POIs (points of interest):

The address marker, and the business marker. Each is separate, and depending on how you enter in your query, it will take you to that specific location. Ideally, the markers should be on the same location, and should be corrected accordingly. You can correct the address marker in MM (Map Maker). In point of fact, I always try to fix both the address and business marker POIs, the first in MM, and the second in the Dashboard, to ensure address continuity.

I don't know if there's any advantage to adding the practice name to the only address field that you can add custom information to, which is the Address Line in MM. It's normally reserved for suite and building information (like Anywhere Medical Plaza or Suite 101) and not the business name, which is unconventional and probably in violation of some obscure MM guideline. I'm sure that Google's crude keyword search will pick up on the additional name in the address regardless, but it's best to organize the information in a way that is easiest to approve.

You can, however, add the name as an additional name and save it as Local tagged name. Since the POI is claimed, your big risk is rejection by a LE (Listing Editor), so if it's denied, you'll have to hit I Object and Try Again to ensure it's evaluated by a GR (Google Reviewer). LEs evaluate edits to claimed listings, and they're notorious for their poor reviewing habits. GRs, on the other hand, are generally good at reviews. It might take some time to get it done in the desired fashion.

If at all possible (I'm not entirely familiar with the Dashboard), make all your edits to claimed listings in the Dashboard rather than MM. MM is a minefield for moderation. What used to be easy is really hard because of the clumsy interference of Places LEs.

    Hi Dan,

Thank you for the detailed insight - much appreciated! The fact that we are dealing with two separate POI's in Mapmaker now makes perfect sense. I like your approach to establishing address continuity as well. Good logic.
