    Lightbulb Suggestion to Linda

    Hi Linda,

Just a suggestion, but is there a way to have links open up in new tabs so we don't have to leave your forum? I know that it is quite common to post a link to a similar problem that has been talked about in a forum/blog. I've been right clicking these to open them up in new tabs because I don't want to leave your forum quite yet

    Thanks!

    Hey Rachel,

You are PSYCHIC! I was just talking to David about that.

Thing is MOST links are opening in new window. For some odd reason though if a link is inside a quote, it's opening in same window. We'll try to figure out why and get it fixed.

I think this is fixed now, Rachel. If it's still not working for you, would you mind posting details re: your browser, browser version, etc.?

    Re: Suggestion to Linda

David, I'm using Chrome (20.0.1132.57) running on Windows XP Pro x64 V2003 SP2 and not getting new target tab/window when attempting to read posts from the forum. Also just tried Firefox (13.0.1) and post still open in the same tab/window (not a new one) as well.

    Re: Suggestion to Linda

Hmmm thought we fixed that. Thanks Don.

To make sure we are on same page though. We are talking about outbound links. Internal links to other pages on forum I think should open same window.

But links to other sites should open new window. So for example here is a link to my Scoop.it. Can you confirm. That link opens in new or same window?

Google Places Optimization & Local SEO News

OOPS you are right. Just check and it opens SAME window. I thought it was fixed yesterday BUT I think he was working on links enclosed in quotes. So maybe now it's reversed.

Here is the same link enclosed in quote tag. Google Places Optimization & Local SEO News
Oops that one doesn't open either. Something must have changed.

THANKS DON for letting us know! We'll fix.

    Re: Suggestion to Linda

To add to Linda's clarification, this is also browser dependent. I have Firefox 13.x configured to open everything in the same tab/window unless I right click and request "open in new window" or "open in new tab". I believe Chrome can be configured in the same way. In Firefox, it's done via the about:config page. I'd have to double check how to change the configuration in Chrome but I expect it's similar.

If you're finding that external links are NOT opening in a new window, please post back and I'll look into it.

    Re: Suggestion to Linda

Well no maybe I wasn't clear David I was agreeing with Don.

Yesterday links here WERE opening in new the way I wanted them to and I confirmed with you the prob was fixed.

Now after Don mentioning it I checked above and links aren't opening in new window for me for me again either and I'm using same browser. So I think something in settings got changed.

And again on other forums I go even 5 Star all links are opening in new window, so it's just here, not my browser.

    Re: Suggestion to Linda

All right... that is REALLY weird because they aren't even opening in a new window now using IE9.

    Sorry, folks. I'll pursue this.
