    Reporting a problem on maps

    Good day all,

I have a old local map listing and when I moved, not knowing what I know now, and the fact is this stuff is very hard and keeps on changing I created a new local map listing for my new address, over time I tried merging the old one and erasing it but no luck, I did remove the old one from my dashboard hoping this would erase it from maps.

Today I called Google support, the tech was very helpful, less then a minute wait, and he said my business is on the radar since SABS most of the time only have one location, but instead of erasing me from maps, since this may be a technical issue, he said its best for me to use the report a problem on the map and mark the old location as closed which I did and I also added a note explaining what happen. He said this should resolve the issue and he has seen some erased within a few days.

My question is, was this the right approach?

What else can I do to get the old location removed from local map pack?

I have seen some businesses marked as closed months ago and still in the map pack way at the end in the last pages.

I do still have citations for the old address, but these are mostly non important citations that get scraped up from who knows where.

The other issue is when one searchers for, "painters my towns", it shows the old and new location in the 3,5 or 7 map pack together.

As I am typing this I get a call from Google 650-253-2000
Mountain View, CA and the lady asked me if this is the old address, I said no. Hopefully my old listing gets erased from the map pack soon.

    Thanks

Re: Reporting a problem on maps

The proper procedure was to mark it as closed on maps.

However that usually won't delete it and Google does not want it deleted. They want a record of it, especially if there are any other sites that list it.

However once a listing is marked closed it is NOT supposed to show in search or maps for KW searches. Should only show up for a direct search for the biz - by name or phone.

I think closed listings showing up in search may be Pigeon related as that's about the time this started happening. But again, they are not supposed to.

That's good info, thanks. I was wondering why they would waste space with closed listings.

Update, the old location is now marked permanently closed. This was all done in a few hours, calling Google support and using the report a problem on the map was fast and smooth.

Thanks to this site for the Google support #

I just hope that the closed listings get removed from KW searches soon.
