    Suggestion - Beginner Forum?

I have been trying to hit as many forums and threads as possible in recent days to get some information and lord, there is a crap load of information here. I am glad I was turned on to this community as it is very relevant, very specific and filled with lots of information. Thank you to the pioneers who have contributed to this community and provided some excellent information.

Something I was thinking about and in part b/c I'm a little confused as well, was creating a few stickies with some basic information for beginners. These stickies could include the ABC's of claiming a business or creating a new listing. I noticed a bit of information spread out among several forums and threads. Consolidating it would, IMO, create an awesome resource for people looking for basic local information.

One of these stickies would hopefully include Google+ vs Google+ Business pages vs Google+ Local listings vs Google Places. I am slightly confused as to the necessity of having a Google+ plus account as well as a Google+ Business Page as well as a Google+ Local page. Are all 3 required?

Being as though there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding Google+ and local, I think it would be a good idea for a sticky to include such information to tie everything together in one spot. Hopefully I'm not overstepping any boundaries here. Just thinking out loud.

Luke, not over-stepping and all great suggestions.

I've tried really hard to add topic specific forums and sticky the best info but to be honest the forums is growing so fast I can't keep up with it all PLUS help all the people at the G forum and all the consultants I do consulting for. So it's a challenge to have the time to keep it all organized.

Many of the answers are here and MOST are in the right section you just might have to dig a little.

A 101 One getting stated forum is a great idea.

AND a post to TRY to clarify the different pages and if you should merge etc is needed. BUT I've been trying to keep up with it in the sticky at the G+ Biz page section AND many answers to your other G+ Biz page qs are already there.

So maybe you just didn't find that section of the forum yet. Again the problem is there is just so much info here now, it's overwhelming.

See if this info helps: Google+ Business Pages

As I get time I'll try to organize even more and will try to add a 101 forum.

ALSO I'm working on a forum navigation post with a bunch of helpful tips for how to find things and stay on top of issues that matter most to you. Hopefully will get that one out today or tomorrow.

Thanks for the ideas and feedback. ALWAYS WELCOME HERE.

haha Thanks for the reply and you are a great facilitator. I know much of the information is around and I've found bits and pieces here and there. There does seem to be tons of information passing through here lately which is great. On the flip side, I'm sure it is very tough to keep up with and keep organized.

I was trying to give more of an example then request an actual answer. I guess I could have worded my title differently. I have no problem plugging through various threads for info. I know a lot of confusion exists with Google+ and it's entities and seeing it one place would certainly be helpful.

As I said, I was thinking out loud. I know your hands are full and I certainly wasn't trying to add something else to the top. Keep up the good work!!

Appreciate your thinking out loud though seriously because I sometimes get so busy just trying to keep all the balls in the air around here, I can't see the forest for the trees.

Plus I tend to try to focus on advanced stuff. But that 101 forum is a no brainer and it's a tree I missed. Plus like I said will try to work more on stickies.

PLUS a big challenge I've been trying to find a tech solution for, like an add-on but we can't find one. Sometimes a great tip will be buried for example in a help thread on a totally different topic. Like thread is for help with a ranking drop but the Q come up how to reclaim a listing in another account and someone gives a great answer about how to do it.

I've been looking for an addon that would let us tick a box and that would mark the answer and move to this new "Best Of" section of the forum that would be all categorized with the best answers or advice for different types of problems. Again we've been looking and can't find one. But it needs to be automated because my carpal is getting bad again and I just can't keep copying and moving threads all day.

I'm also adding help at the forum so as the forum grows there will be more people to try to help me stay organized.

    re: Suggestion - Beginner Forum?

Hey, some really good ideas here. I think that (already), we are starting to see a lot of important topics being placed on a "sticky".

I personally am really using the "search" function a lot with the forum, and am finding it to be very good for getting to an answer.

i think the difficulty at the moment is there are such large changes going on with G+ Local that even a "sticky" could perhaps get out-of-date quite quick. There's quite a bit of uncertainty with G+ Local, to say the least.

    re: Suggestion - Beginner Forum?

I wish there would be a way to force people to use the search function more. I use it a lot but probably not as much as I could be using it. I have been using the search function and no doubt it helps a lot and it makes it much easier to find information here. It still amazes me that there is so much vital info here.

Looking back at some of the dates more closely, I think you are absolutely correct about the rapid changes taking place. I guess the second part of my recommendation would help to create a solid resource (for SERP's placement too) for some of the major differences between all the different entities as well as how to make sure you get off on the right foot from day one. For someone who has less knowledge, I think it is easy to start off in the wrong direction. Heck, I'm not exactly new to local but I'm learning that I could have done things differently to achieve quicker/better results.

I'm done. Back to scouring and getting ready for a foot plus of snow in the Northeastern US.

Hey Luke, finally got around to adding a new Google Local 101 forum.

The 1st post is a sticky and has lots of good beginner posts all in one place. Feel free to add other topics.

Thanks for all your feedback and suggestions. Together we can make this place even better.

    Re: Suggestion - Beginner Forum?

Awesome, thank you for finding time for it. I think it will be beneficial to users, especially folks who are new to local search considering there is so much information in these forums. A one stop shop section will hopefully yield the newer members/visitors to read through the 101 section first and keep the less basic questions out of the more advanced issue threads. That's what I was thinking anyhow.

    Great work as always!
