    Google+ Local Pending "Under Review"?

I'm sure there's already a thread on this. But with such positive interaction with my last thread about accounts under suspension: Accounts No longer "Suspended"

I figured it would be appropriate to bring up the other issue we all hate seeing in Google Places Account: Pending "Under Review".

After filling out one of the help forms, we are left with something like this:

Thanks for getting in touch with us about your Google+ Local issue. It appears that your listing is of a business type that commonly has issues with our quality guidelines. This can cause display issues with these listings.
Please take the following steps to ensure your business meets our guidelines, and if you're still having a problem with your listing, respond to this email:

    - Review the Google Places quality guidelines to make sure all of your business details are accurate and within our guidelines: http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=107528

Specifically, if you do not make contact with your customers at your location, you should hide your address and indicate a service area. This article explains this process: http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=177103

If you run a service-area business, please also make sure your listing represents a directly contactable business. You should not verify locations of your service representatives, but instead verify your business headquarters and specify service areas from that listing.

    - If your listing meets all of our quality guidelines, please make sure you've removed any duplicate listings from your account by clicking "Delete", then "Remove this listing from my Google Places account". If unverified duplicates of your listing exist on Google Maps, you can report them using "Report a problem" from the Google Maps result.

    - Make sure you've submitted an update to your listing recently from your account, and have waited a week for that update to go live. Simply clicking "Edit" and "Submit" will let us know that the information is up-to-date, even if nothing has changed.

If you've gone through all of these steps and are still experiencing problems with your listing, respond to this email so that we can review your question.
After running this steps and responding to "The Google Team" email, we usually get a positive response in return and of course "we don't have a concrete timeline we can give for this". Yet, usually the listing comes out of "under review" after a few weeks.

My question is: (if you feel like sharing)

Does anybody else have any different tactics?
What are some other reasons you've seen why your listing went "Under Review"?
Also, how long does the process usually take for you (getting a client out of Pending/Under Review)?

Re: Google+ Local Pending "Under Review"?

Hi Michael - Expanded title to be more descriptive plus Moved from Local Search general to Google+ Local IMPORTANT - because it's more specific to G+ AND is sort of important because this support email is sort of a big deal IMO.

That email is the most thorough I've seen as far as trying to PROACTIVELY explain some of the common Service Area Business violations to help educate SABs and keep their listings compliant.

I'm actually pretty surprised and happy to see it. And I hope this signals more changes in support and a better attitude toward wanting to help business owners succeed and do it right. (Instead of assuming they are all a bunch of spammers, so they shouldn't tell them too much.)

I've never seen them come right out and PROACTIVELY say: "If you run a service-area business, please also make sure your listing represents a directly contactable business. You should not verify locations of your service representatives, but instead verify your business headquarters…"

Even though I know that's against guidelines and know it's one of the biggest SAB problems that come up, I've just never seen them proactively warn.

Did this listing have multiple locations that were questionable or in violation by chance?

    Other reasons for pending...

Often it's location related: Map Marker in wrong spot, suspected virtual office or like they say above, additional locations they are suspicious of.

Often it's as simple as every word capped or excessive caps, bad spelling, poor grammar, incomplete sentences, excessive superlatives or claims that can't be proven or bad nanny bot words.

POKES are the best, least invasive, 1st thing to try. Do it once. Wait a week as pokes these days can take a few days before they work.

Re: Google+ Local Pending "Under Review"?

    Hi Linda,

The emails seem to be getting more thorough which I think is very helpful. Plus, they seem to be responding to particular questions rather than just giving you a link to Google's quality guidelines.

We see Pending/"Under Review" with all the reasons you indicated.

Occasionally, we see listings that seem to obey all quality guidelines but are "under review" when they service an area or when they hide the address.
Assuming, the business truly is a service-area business. We find it best to fill out a help request and then respond to the Google rep's emails. This seems to get the listing out of "under review" in a somewhat timely fashion. At least it beats just waiting and hoping the listing will come out of "under review".

Re: Google+ Local Pending "Under Review"?

I just put the support email in quotes and bolded a part I want to draw attention to.

If your listing meets all of our quality guidelines, please make sure you've removed any duplicate listings from your account by clicking "Delete", then "Remove this listing from my Google Places account". If unverified duplicates of your listing exist on Google Maps, you can report them using "Report a problem" from the Google Maps result.
I always question consultants HARD when I consult for them on complicated listing problems to be sure there is not another listing in another account. (I call this a hidden merged dupe.) Because dual claimed listings are not only a violation but can cause a myriad of data problems.

BUT I've never seen G support come out and proactively warn folks about this.

PLUS it's like they are saying this COULD be the reason it's pending. And I've often suspected it can be the reason for suspended listings as well.

Post Re: Google+ Local Pending "Under Review"?

Interesting, Google support team is becoming more and more helpful.
The listing they are responding to below, is no longer in pending/under review status.
It only took about 2 weeks from the point I first contacted Google Help, to come out of "under review."

Thanks for your patience in waiting for an update on your listing. We have some good news for you: it looks like the technical issue has been resolved and your listing is now back up here https://plus.google.com/102472966729836395013/about

Please note that it may take a few weeks for your dashboard status to change from "Pending" to "Active". However your listing is live on Maps. While the status shows as pending, I recommend you search for your listings by searching on Maps using your business title and address.

A few things to keep in mind now:

-Please note that if you do not make in-person contact at your location and do not keep your address hidden, you risk being removed from Google Maps. You can read more about service areas and these policies at this link:http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?answer=177103

-Reviews can sometimes be dropped during reconciliation of data issues such as this. We’re unfortunately unable to address each instance in which this occurs.

-Please note that since your listing issues have recently been resolved, it may take several weeks for your listing to display in some search results. Unfortunately, we are unable to manually alter or affect your listing showing in search queries. However, here’s a link to help optimize your listing: http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=148047&topic=1656875&ctx=topic

Lastly, I just wanted to let you know that you may receive a satisfaction survey from no-reply@google.com within the next few days--if you do, please take a few minutes to fill it out. It's a brief survey and your feedback will help us improve our customer service--every piece helps!

Thank you again for your understanding and patience, and for using Google+ Local.
