Searching for dupes using phone number on Maps no longer working?

    Hi-

As most here probably know, to search for duplicate listings you go to Google Maps and enter your phone number.

Just today I noticed that when I search Maps using a phone number that only 1 listing is displayed.

I went to my spreadsheet and copy/pasted the client's dup listings into my browser and each listing still is active.

    Anyone else notice this?

Re: Searching for dups using phone number on Maps no longer working?

Oh dang Chris. You are right! I just checked one Dentist I thought still had dupes. Phone search - only ONE listing. And not MY listing - but an unclaimed dupes. But clicked indiv links in my records and they are ALL still live. 4 of them.

Oh man this is a bear!

At 1st I thought, not too big a deal, we'll just have to search for dupes in MM. BUT dupes don't show there either!

So then I searched maps for Dentist street city. No luck - just one listing.

HERE IS THE WORST PART at least in the one I checked. The ONLY one that shows is the one in MM which ends up being an UNCLAIMED DUPE. I think it's new and not one of the original listings.

The beautiful optimized listing that was ranking #1 all over is one of the ones that's hidden. He still ranks #1 BUT it's with the empty ugly unclaimed dupe.

CRAP I'm afraid this is happening with most of my clients. Luckily they are all ex clients and out of contract BUT I don't have time now to figure them all out and fix whatever is going on.

I'll investigate some more and then probably ask Google about it.

Thanks for heads up and let me know if you figure anything else out!

Oh man I'm scared to even dig in and research any more. I am so glad I'm not working on client sites any more. I have a feeling already that there is some kind of major change going on that's going to make life harder. Maybe I'm being paranoid???

I'm going to check the Places forum now to see if I see any other trends/problems.

I tried some other methods with no luck.

    Google is trying my patience.

Linda, what is the idea??? Have you found a workaround? Would love to hear, because this truly makes things difficult!

Oh no, no workaround yet. I'd share and tell you guys if it was something like that.

Chris just has a thread at the G forum that lists links to a bunch of dupes that makes for a good example. So I asked him to post about this tomorrow over there so I can add to it, then escalate to Google to see what's up.

Been fighting other bugs tonight so have not had time to investigate any more. Not sure yet if some kind of back end update OR a bug.

Re: Searching for dupes using phone number on Maps no longer working?

I'm seeing about half of the dupes that I know exist for our clients show up when you search the phone# in Google Maps. The other half is just as Chris said, AWOL, but if you have saved the link, you can click on it and it's still live.

I am going to see if I can see any connections. Maybe it has to do with whether or not the dupe is verified??

I have also been noticing that Google is TRULY getting rid of or merging a lot of dupes as well, lately.

OK... here are the 4 listings:

    https://plus.google.com/102091455517485648202
    https://plus.google.com/107890746411411926741
    https://plus.google.com/109710367465193598041
    https://plus.google.com/106982601767384561591

The first one (8202) is the claimed listing. The others are dups. I can only find the claimed listing when searching the phone number (704-597-5555) via Maps.

Not in my case. 1 claimed and beautifully optimized practice listing. 3 dupes.

Phone search ONLY shows an unclaimed ugly bare dupe. AND that's now the one that ranks in blended. All the others including the claimed and optimized practice listing are invisible unless you know the URL.

And again, it's not just Map search glitch. It tracks back all the way back to MapMaker and phone search there does not reveal dupes either.
