    Local Search Marketing Trends - Local Search AGENCY Report

    BrightLocal recently did a survey of SMBs and their usage of and attitudes toward local search.

    But today I want to share another important survey with you - but this one was a survey of Local Search consultants and agencies, getting their take on many of the important things that affect your consulting business.

    In December 2014 HubShout surveyed small online marketing agencies whose clients are SMBs.

    HubShout’s Online Marketing Trends survey found that in 2014, small business clients allocated about 62% of their budgets to website development and SEO:

    36% was allocated to website development.
    That is an indicator that small businesses are now more dependent on their websites than in years past and are inclined to invest in website development. The takeaway for small marketing agencies: offer website design/development as a service.

    26% was allocated to SEO. (That’s more than two times the amount spent on other services—about 12% each to PPC, email marketing, and social media marketing.) The takeaway for small marketing agencies: expect to see a healthy demand for SEO in 2015.

    Of the agencies surveyed, 59% outsourced SEO and 53% outsourced website development services.

    The survey also found that 66% of small businesses spent $1,000 per month or less on online marketing.

    Question for online marketing professionals: Is $1,000 reasonable—enough to run an effective online marketing campaign for a small business? What about $500?

    Thanks for the mention Linda!

    I think you can definitely start clients at $500, but anything less than that is cutting yourself short (I think we've talked about this in the consultants section of the forum). I think businesses want to pay $500 because they're unsure how SEO will affect their bottom line. What do you guys think?
