Re: Local Search Webinar: Social Strategies that Really Generate New Customers

Hi Linda, thank you for setting up this thread.

I had a follow-up question to something Dana brought up in regards to social media channel activity for certain areas (she used the example of how Twitter is popular in Edmonton).

What are some of the best ways to discover popular social media channels for a particular location?

Re: Local Search Webinar: Social Strategies that Really Generate New Customers

Hi Jannell! Try going into the advertising interface for each network and running a query for users based on the location - it'll tell you how many people but not how many active people. For Twitter, keep an eye on the hashtag and see how often it's used and if it's real people or spam bots.

    Does that help?

Re: Local Search Webinar: Social Strategies that Really Generate New Customers

WEBINAR QA LOG BELOW. I stripped out all the email addresses, intros and sound check comments to cut down to the nitty gritty. (Formatting not perfect but I don't have more time to spend on this.)

Working to post Slideshare next and video should be up by Friday.

Thanks for all the great Qs everyone!

    WEBINAR QA LOG

    Audience Question:
Q: I like the "chatter" for early arrivers better than elevator music. Good idea![Ray Adams]
A: Thanks Ray - warming up the crowd! ;-)

    Audience Question:
    Q: Thanks[Monika Schmidt]
A: FYI ALL Links for Speakers in the Chat Module

    Audience Question:
Q: AWESOME PANEL MYLES! Thank you![Francesco Kozerski]
    A: Glad you like it!

Q: Dana is a wealth of information![Cynthia Bankston]
    A: Thanks Cynthia!

Q: Dana, do you use an equivalent of Moz Local in Edmonton? [Analiese Kovisto]
A: We use Whitespark & BrightLocal. No Moz local for Canada yet.

    Audience Question:
Q: Any good dashboards that the panel uses to track numbers for small business clients? Most dashboards I've seen are only good for large companies.[Craig Backus]
A: Great Q - Let's see if they will cover that one.

    Q: I use Raven Tools as a dashboard[Kevin Medri]

    Audience Question:
Q: I would like to ask a question when there is time.[aw plumbing]
A: Feel free to ask now

    Audience Question:
Q: how do you help your clients who aren't at all familiar with social media recognize the ROI they are getting from being on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Email Marketing, etc... [Paige Widener]
A: Great Q! I'm sure they will cover ROI

Q: for clients who aren't interested in engaging on social media, What about setting up social profiles used solely for a quality backlink for SEO purposes?[Vicky Lawrence]

Q: Where are the refreshments? HaHaHa!!![Lawrence Chan]

Q: I'd like to know the ROI of Instagram. I'm not convinced Instagram delivers unless you're a celeb or fashion/interior designer[Kimbers Sheppard]
A: If it doesn't get answered - we have a pet kennel client on Instagram who's seeing great ROI from sharing happy photos of pets enjoying the facility!

    Audience Question:
Q: I'd like to know the ROI of Instagram. I'm not convinced Instagram delivers unless you're a celeb or fashion/interior designer[Kimbers Sheppard]
A: That was Dana that answered you - I don't think you can see who's posting replies

    Audience Question:
Q: What social media management tool do you suggest to manage multiple twitter accounts? HootSuite? Buffer? There are so many, what works best for you? Cost & features considered?[Daniela Young]
A: Good Q. I hope they'll talk tools. Will ping Myles to be sure he includes.

    Q: Thank you![Daniela Young]

    Audience Question:
Q: We have clients who we are always active on their social accounts, but their like count isn't high and is hard to grow. Is that damaging?[Silvia Potempa]
A: Focus on the types of content that they’re seeing engagement from. Quality content over quantity. Engaging content will spark growth – but engagement is far more important than just the FB page’s fan count. I wouldn’t call a low fan count damaging, but content that isn’t engaging is damaging to their overall presesnce.

    Audience Question:
Q: My organic and maps won't budge.[aw plumbing]
A: Speakers won't be covering that topic on this webinar. You can post some specific issues over at the Local Search Forum

Q: I believe the poll is missing an option for a separate custom strategy for each client.[Michael Johnson]

    Audience Question:
Q: How often does Google parse the SEO changes we make to organic and maps listings to see the results appear.[aw plumbing]
A: That's a little off topic for this webinar focusing on social. You can post in the help forum at the Local Search Forum and we'll take a look and help you out. http://www.localsearchforum.com/ (Help forum toward bottom)

    Audience Question:
Q: What social media management tool do you suggest to manage multiple twitter accounts? HootSuite? Buffer? There are so many, what works best for you? Cost & features considered?[Daniela Young]
A: I prefer HootSuite for multiple Twitter accounts - but I don't like their pricing on reporting. Aside from that it is a really great tool!

    Audience Question:
Q: I'd be interested in hearing more about that even if not in this webinar. thanks![Kimbers Sheppard]
A: Sorry too busy trying to answer all the social Qs right now and there is no spefic answer I don't think really.

    Audience Question:
Q: One of the best dashboards for small agencies, Local Brand Analytics for Chains and Franchises We have been using ti for over a yeasr now, very satisfied with it.[Ed Burckhardt]
A: Oh good to know. Thanks Ed!

    Q: YW![Ed Burckhardt]

    Audience Question:
Q: What about a client that doesn't do a lot of events or sponsorships, what is another idea for unique information to share on social?[Mikayla Bump]
A: Focus on the types of content that they’re seeing engagement from. Quality content over quantity. Engaging content will spark growth – but engagement is far more important than just the FB page’s fan count. I wouldn’t call a low fan count damaging, but content that isn’t engaging is damaging to their overall presence.

Questions, staff photos, photos from their community/sharing photos and engaging content from their local community. Look at what content has worked well in the past and find new ways to deliver something similar. Today is Administrative Professional’s day – have the client text you a photo of their administrative staff and post a thank you message.

    Audience Question:
Q: we have started tweeting pictures with our tweets. works well. Not a question- just a share.[fred tanner]
    A: Thanks Fred! Pic =s a thousand words! :-)

Q: Depending on the type of client, we share content that is relevant to them and their company. This has greatly helped to increase or community engagement because this type of posting offers a personal touch.[Cynthia Bankston]

    Audience Question:
Q: Where did Cami post the article she mentioned? Sounds worthwhile.[Craig Backus]
A: I'll try to find out and will post in Chat if I can get it. Or will have her answer here

    Audience Question:
Q: Say you want to start you own social media management company. How do you find clients?[Stephanie Hanson ]

    Q: Got it. Thanks[Ray Adams]

    Audience Question:
    Q: What is KPI?[Ray Adams]
    A: Performance Indicators

Q: Which website platform are they using?[aw plumbing]

    Q: We use Buffer[Jonathan Sanders]

    Q: Wordpress?[aw plumbing]

    Audience Question:
Q: How much experience do you all have with Facebook Dark posts? [Paige Widener]
    A: It's rivaliq.com!

    Q: Oh, got it[Sherry Bonelli]

    Audience Question:
Q: What tools do they recommend for all Social Media, not just twitter? Sprout Social, Hubspot anything else?[Liad Maccabi]
A: My overall favorite tool is Sprout Social. There are some pros and cons to each of course, but my team has been using Sprout for about a year and we’ve never had any problems with it. I love their reporting, but I prefer HootSuite for my clients who are really focused on Twitter and Buffer for G+. It also really depends on your budget for tools! I am excited to see what everyone else has to say.

    Audience Question:
Q: Whats the URL for the tool dana mentioned?[Sherry Bonelli]
    A: rivaliq.com

Q: Any thoughts, comments on Hearsay Social?[Ralph O'Meany]

    A: rivalIQ.com

Q: Twitter moves very fast, how do you ensure your content is not missed?[Daniela Young]
A: Frequency is very important! Don’t be afraid to reshare content that did well.

Q: How to test the social media activity of a location??[Jannell Howell]

    Audience Question:
Q: Twitter moves very fast, how do you ensure your content is not missed?[Daniela Young]
A: Frequency is very important! Don’t be afraid to reshare content that did well.

Q: Unfortunately, most SMBs - SMOs are still not paying attention to social media. Hardly any get involved in checking Twiter.[Ed Burckhardt]

Q: Chris- have your clients used Twitter ads to reach your targeted audience? [Paige Widener]

Q: No one has mentioned google+[Sue Davis]

    Q: what about google+[Sue Davis]

Q: Tips and tricks for getting enough content for all this? How often do you post the same stuff?[Derek Marin]

    Audience Question:
Q: It has been slow and difficult to get traction with google+. Hard to get followers and even harder to get reviews since customers have to have a gmail account and their real name is used in the review. Any strategies for making google+ work for a business better?[fred tanner]
A: Some tips: Participate in groups, leave reviews on other pages, and engage with other local businesses. I still don’t see a lot of activity there, but if you’re wanting to be on G+ give those three things a try.

Q: How is social going to be affect now that Google Plus is going away?[derrick OKeefe]

Q: As far as I'm concerned - G+ is mostly used for SEO purposes - I wouldn't put all my eggs in G+'s basket[Vicky Lawrence]

    Audience Question:
Q: I use Google+ for a chamber I manage, and find that my event posts will come up in basic searches. It's important to check your visibility on your Google+ insights which I don't think filter down to Google Analytics.[Craig Backus]
    A: Good point. Thanks Craig

    Audience Question:
Q: Hashtags, Bolding Text, and Italicizing things helps grow engagement a ton for Google+[Stephanie Hanson ]
    A: Thanks Stephanie!

    Audience Question:
Q: 2 questions. What do you recommend for monthly spend on social media paid ads vs. say adwords? How often do you discuss results wth clients? [Derek Marin]
A: Focusing on the social side of this- it really depends on the size of the area you’re targeting. For small businesses targeting a small area, you can promote your page for $1/day and still see results. Obviously if you have more to work with, you will get more results. Boosting posts can be done very affordably as well. Start with $50 a month between boosting a few posts and promoting your page – it’s a small number that a client will often agree to yet it’s usually enough to see an uptick in activity. We provide monthly reporting.

    Audience Question:
Q: WHere can I find training on running a Facebook contest?[Sue White]
A: Here are some great links from FB that outlines the rules and best practices: https://www.facebook.com/business/ne...omotions-terms https://fbcdn-dragon-a.akamaihd.net/...31667568_n.pdf

Q: Where does Chris recommend joining a group? linkedIn, Google+, others?[Craig Backus]

Q: Great webinar!! Very helpful information[Ashley Stocker]

Q: Thank you all ![Adam Anuszkiewicz]

Q: Excellent! Time well spent. Thanks.[Ray Adams]

Q: Thanks evryone, it was great![Mary Bowling]

    Q: Thank you[Brian Bigda]

    Q: Thanks![Mark Becker]

    Audience Question:
Q: Can you provide any source for demographics of members of different social sites?[len allen]
A: https://www.facebook.com/business/ne...ience-insights This is a great tool for FB
