    Thumbtack Penalty Quickly Reversed

There are a lot of people wondering if this reversal happened so quickly because Thumbtack is financially backed by Google. What are your thoughts? Thanks Barry!

Google Reverses The Thumbtack Link Penalty, Rankings Return

Last week, we reported how Google Capital backed Thumbtack received a Google penalty for unnatural links. In short, they told their businesses to link to them with keyword rich anchor text in exchange for progress points to a completed profile.

My experience with re-inclusion requests is they take MONTHS to resolve.

Maybe it is just a matter of having a contact @ Google to say: "Hey, can you expedite that inclusion request?"

That seems to be the normal, but hey, get backed by Google.

It depends on type of request. For purchased links that are removed (ie they caught client when they bust site or network and links are quickly removed) it is really quick.

Some requests you get denied or approved by an exact time frame.

Spammy content on site 3 days - exactly.

Outgoing links (guest content or looks like paid) 3 weeks exactly.

In reading the article, it isn't so much the speed it is the procedure they used. Usually, you need to remove as many links as possible. You then need to do a disavow. Your traffic isn't going to go back to where it was as you removed and disavowed your great anchor text that was working.

Barry and others are taking the claim from Thumbtack at face value. That no disavow was done and they got back to where they were before hand.

We do know that they are back in google. The publicity may have gotten them more press coverage and links. They had plenty of strong links without the anchor.

A Google financed company by definition will have millions. They will have full time marketing and pr departments. They will have high DA sites.

In sum, did they do a disavow? Who knows? Traffic would be decent for them as they really didnt need the anchor text links. It was a way to put their thumb on the scale but wasnt necessary for their SEO efforts.
