Linda on Vaca - Then Half-Time til 7/13

    Hi everyone,

I'm taking my 1st real vacation since I started the forum 3 years ago. (Actually it's been about 5 years since I've taken one.)

3 Drs have told me I need to take 2 weeks to 2 months off to heal my torn elbow tendon, which is due to RSI from mousing/keying and my carpal problems in my other hand. So I'm taking about a week off.

Not sure I would have caved to the Drs since I'm such a workaholic, but my son and his 4 kids are in town. Have not seen them for 2 years and they have a 15 month old I had not even met yet. So this is my 1st time together with all 7 grandkids which now includes 2 babies.

So ya, I've kinda been in Grandma lala land the past few days and it's been hard to focus on work with them here. AND hard to keep all the family and work balls in the air at the same time. Haha!

Sooo... going to start taking time off today. I'll be peeking in from time to time BUT have promised Drs, family, myself and the team here I will try to take a full week off without posting to let my RSI heal. (Drs want me to take 2 months - ya right! )

So if you don't see me around much, that's why. But I swear I am so addicted to this place and helping everyone that I don't know how I'll do it. Guess I need to try to sit on my hands or something. Do me a favor (like an AA sponsor or weightloss buddy) and if you see me posting, tell me to knock it off and stick to my commitment!

Luckily I have an awesome team holding down the fort! And lots of great Top Contributors that will be continuing to bring you great tips and news, as well as answering questions. So I know you will all be in good hands while I'm off!

If you have tech problems, like lost password or something not working, please PM David. For general questions or help with something like fixing a typo in post title or moving a thread, David, Colan or Scott can help.

PS, since I won't be doing much social posting - (crap forgot about that - can't do that either) please be sure you are subscribed to the forum RSS feed AND/OR the daily email digest, so you can continue to stay informed on all the new topics that come up.

    Thanks, Linda

Outstanding Linda! I know it is hard to step away from your baby, but this period can also be very rewarding- physically and Mentally.

Hope you are ice massaging that elbow. Sounds painful! Heal up and enjoy life.

re: Linda on Vaca - Then Half-Time til 7/13

Hi all, sure missed posting & sharing every day, but the break helped my elbow heal a bit. Could really tell the difference when I was off.

I thought the torn tendon had almost healed, but as soon as I started working again yesterday, started hurting bad again and am back to having difficulty even lifting a cup.

So my elbow is still not totally healed. It's like if you stretch a rope and keep rubbing it back and forth over the sharp edge of a rock over and over, eventually the rope will fray and break.

So I think it's no longer totally torn, but it's still frayed and weak. If I go right back to rubbing it back and forth, doing the same repetitive motions it's just going to tear again.

So I'm only going to be working 1/2 time for the next week. 35 hours instead of 70. Mainly in the AM, which is when I do most of the posting and sharing news with you guys. And then hopefully next week I can ramp up a little more.

    Will post as I can.

Nice to see you back Linda....I keep dixie cups of frozen water in my freezer. When I start to flare up I take one out, rip away the paper about half way and rub the tendon with it. It does help when its inflamed.

    Thanks Justin.

I forgot that trick. I do ice a lot with ice packs, and have PT exercises and stretches and massages I'm supposed to do. But I forgot about the direct ice like that. Just need to keep it moving. I'll try it tonight.

I'm also taking Turmeric at the advice of Mark from Places Scout. It really helps with inflammation but of course won't literally heal the tear. But every little bit helps!
