How Does Google Handle Top Level Domains?

The Webmaster Central Blog is finally answering some common questions on how they handle new TLD's. Lots of great links within the post. Any thoughts on this?

Google's handling of new top level domains

With the coming of many new generic top level domains (gTLDs), we'd like to give some insight into how these are handled in Google's search. Re: How Does Google Handle Top Level Domains?

It looks like the only advantage Google is pointing out is using the gTLD's to help determine a site location and it's relevance to a particular area. I think this is interesting, and makes me wonder whether I should buy up some of these new TLD's.

Google doesn't look at keywords in a domain? Sounds like bull to me. Or a case of correlation not causation.
