Yelp Suing Southpark - No It's a Hoax

    http://nbc.com.co/yelp-sues-south-pa...-over-episode/

San Francisco, CA — Today Yelp Inc. filed a $10 million dollar lawsuit against the creators of South Park and Comedy Central. In the lawsuit, Yelp is seeking damages caused by the latest episode of South Park which lampooned the customer review and local business rating website.

Paul Horner, who is a spokesman for Yelp, spoke with NBC News about details of the lawsuit.

“Our company, along with its millions of users, take Yelp very seriously. The South Park episode was in extremely bad taste and not funny whatsoever. To say our critics are out there trying to get free food and using racist slurs on little Mexican children is beyond ridiculous. To compare the users of Yelp to terrorists is not only cruel, but the definition of libel and slander. I believe any reasonable court in America will agree with the lawsuit and rule in our favor.”

Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of the popular animated series, were quick to issue a statement of their own.

“We’ve taken a hard look at the information presented to us, and after reviewing it, we have given Yelp and their lawsuit only one star. Their lawyers delivered us legal documents in a very unprofessional manner; not bothering to smile or even a quick handshake. The writing on the envelope was barely legible and in two different colors. It is our personal opinion that Yelp could do a much better job by not suing us for ten million dollars.”

I am a die hard Yelper. I have also watched South Park since the first season. Love this story. Matt and Treys review of Yelp is classic.

This episode is symbolic of SMB'S frustration with the current review system.

What do you think TC'S is there something more than comedy here?

Wow Cody. Good story and great share!

Wonder if there is a link to that episode or if that part is uploaded to YT yet?

It's on Hulu. Personally I love South Park and thought it was hilarious. Not sure what to think about this lawsuit or if they have any real standing. I love Matt & Trey's response - classic rebuttal.

I think if you (yelp) can't take humorous satire and laugh it off, then you might want to take a closer look at your business. Just because you say "our critics don't do that" doesn't mean it's not happening. They're digging a deeper hole for themselves now, rather than spinning it into a positive.

It's hilarious IMO and illustrates how many business owners and their employees feel about some of the more arrogant Yelpers.

I love using Yelp as a search engine. I travel often and find yelp reviews to be the most informative and resourceful.

I learned a long time ago to "slow my roll" when writing my reviews. To be considerate with my words becuase there are real people and businesses on the other side.

I actually just watched it today after reading about the suit. Maybe it was a publicity stunt to get me to watch south park again

I LOVE their response to the suit.

I seriously doubt they have any leg to stand on. If anything, they can always use the "parody" clause and probably be safe enough.

Funny as I am an "Elite" Yelper and have heard people go into restaurants and demand free food, drinks, etc. and threaten them with a bad review if they don't comply. So bad news for Yelp but South Park isn't that far off...

re: Yelp Suing Southpark - No It's a Hoax

I think the episode hits on an important trend of the current review environment. I have always seen Yelp as more of a fun-loving kind of company and it surprises me that they would take theses steps. Bad rep management in my opinion. I wonder how Yelp would respond to that negative review
