    Big news for me

I just wanted to share something that's a big deal for me.

I have sold my in-home caregiving business and will focus exclusively on my web company now. In that company, we build (or rebuild) websites and provide ongoing online marketing and SEO services for clients. The company specializes in working with clients that serve the elderly and their families, both companies and individual professionals.

No more providing caregivers for elderly clients in their homes and (hooray!) no more employees in California. Anyone who has been a California employer will know what I'm talking about.

[Admins feel free to move this to a more appropriate section if needed]

Awesome news Tim! That's going to be a big change, but hopefully a good change

I moved this down to the break room section of the forum, since I'm not really sure where else it could go. Seems like a good place for it

Big congrats Tim and a pretty big Christmas present to yourself.
Sounds like a lot less headaches?

    Thanks for moving Eric!

You can say that again. I don't know whether or not you have ever been a California employer, but let's just say that if you have not, you are a fortunate person. It's not the employees that make me say that, not at all. I loved the people part of our home care business, both the clients and our caregiver employees.

It is our state government (and the Feds too) that make it just simply miserable. Corrupt politicians and special interest groups create laws that punish you for employing people and then petty dictators who are government employees enforce the unjust laws that the politicians have corruptly enacted, often without knowing what they are talking about but armed with the full force of the law and the ability to hurt you regardless of whether or not you have done anything wrong.

Our state's regulatory office that oversees home care licensing is populated almost entirely with people who have no personal experience or knowledge of the home care industry but who got their roles in that office because of state employee seniority civil service rules. They create standards for licensure that are not authorized in state law, but because they think that they have good ideas for adding to what the law requires.

Not that I have strong feelings about this or anything.

PS - Linda if this is too harsh or violates some standard for the forum, I apologize.

It's hard to remember most of the time the bureaucrats mean well. Then again, been a long time since I was in the US and a whole lot of things have changed since then.

Best wishes for the new venture in the new year!

    Re: Big news for me

    Very Cool!! Congratulations!

As a former California Employer, I feel your pain and wish you many nights of sleep!

I took my California Employer level one step further and had the LLC in California and employees in 8 different states! What can I say, I kept my accountant employed with all the various state taxes and then having to appease California on top of it all! He too is happy I've moved on from that business!

Again, big congrats for you on the sale! Selling a company itself can be a massive drain when you start getting into nit-picky back and forth, so congratulations on weathering it and coming out shining on the other side!
