Arrow Look Who Jumped into the Game - Vistaprint Launches Local Listings Service

Look who just got into the Local Listings Game

Vistaprint just launched Local Listings. The service includes submission to 100 directories.

What makes this interesting to me is that VP has a strong foothold into the very small business market.
Those Mom & Pop businesses that often are not very tech savvy, are low budget and previously would likely not even have considered local listing management. VP already has relationships with 16 million small business customers that regularly buy offline marketing materials like business cards and signs.

David Hirschman over at Street Fight broke the story today.
Head over to see his take on it and I have more info below too.

Here is more information from Vistaprint:

Manage your details in a central location, then we submit your profile to more than 100 directories, including Yahoo, YP.com, and Google.

    Yelp Reviews
Track your Yelp reviews so you can engage with your best advocates and win back the loyalty of less happy customers right away.

That page and others say one month free then $10 a month.

However this page says one month free then $5 a month. I think I may have uncovered a page from the original BETA or something. Local Search Profile & Local Business Search | Vistaprint

If you go through WEBS a VistaPrint company, looks like it's only $6.99. Webs Local Listings

    Pretty Interesting!
    What do you think???

Re: Look Who Jumped into the Game - Vistaprint Launches Local Listings Service

I decided to be a guinea pig and signed up a little side biz I recently started... Here are my initial thoughts:

    - The intro price is a steal. As long as it stays at $5/month I will keep it.
    - The interface is very simple. Compared to Moz Local it is very unsophisticated. Feels like it was coded/designed in 2005.
    - Some functions are not working. I could not add any pictures.
    - I immediately got 9 robo calls from 2 Florida numbers, probably not a coincidence...

I will report back if anything interesting happens when the listings start showing up.

It sounds like with their "over 100 business directories" they're just using Localeze to distribute.

Since you've used it, what does the interface look like?

Does it show you any of the "100+ directories" or just the main ones, Google, Bing, AOL, Yahoo, Yelp and YP.com? I'd be interested to see what that part looks like as well.

They have a short FAQ, that's it. From there:

"Your Local Search Profile information is distributed to GoogleŽ Maps, YahooŽ Local, Microsoft Bing™, Yellowpages.com™, Comcast.net Search, DexKnows™ Online Search Profile, Open List(R), Yellowbook™, Kudzu.comŽ, and many more. Altogether your information will be sent to more than 100 search sites!"

Just another commoditized offering. Businesses (I think) are used to getting these offers now, it seems every where you turn you see an offer for listings, or any other marketing come on.

I think these things are a hard sell without a phone or presence in person.

VistaPrint just should have repped Yext, it would have been easier for them.

Vistaprint? Haha, Well I guess somebody over there finally woke up to the fact that traditional marketing is fading away. I would've liked to have been a fly on the wall at that meeting.

If their model is anything like the hundreds of other automated services out there... they will keep creating duplicate and incorrect listings all over the place. Thus creating more work for those who do it manually.

I'd say bring it on as I'm converting new customers all the time based on the craziness these other companies create. It sucks for the business owner having to pay for something more than once. But the word will get around.
