I was just on a panel this morning at Texas A & M and one of the attendees asked about how to get reviews where she wanted them! It was so cool to tell her about the new partnership and where to go learn more.

Grade.us is looking like a great tool for us to monitor and manage the reviews. I love how you can now point your customers to one location to place give a review.

Pretty amazing how much better the tools are for small business owners and agencies interested in review building in management vs where it was at even three or four years ago. Good stuff, thanks for sharing!

James, you are so right! The tools are so much better! Do you have any best practices for getting reviews for your clients?

Re: Got Reviews? Why Not? Advice Local Announces Partnership with Grade.us

It's not something I hang my hat on, but it's something I've helped enough clients with that I've at least cobbled together something resembling a best practices list that I like to follow, though any consultant that actually focuses in this area would know a lot more than me.

The number one thing tripping up business owners with review building on Google that I've talked to, is the lack of an easy place to send people. That Pleper review link tool makes people think I'm a genius... especially for business owners with more than one location. I've been able to people in 5 minutes with something they've actively tried finding a solution for for weeks. Not sure why Google doesn't make this easier, but whatever.

From there, the review building part is mostly off-line. When I sit down to hatch up a plan with someone, usually I have them walk me through the client life cycle. I just help them find the obvious places to ask... the goal is to at least semi-automate asking the right people at the right time to go leave a review. Can be done in person (nice to have a super easy to find link on the website so you can verbally tell them where to go) or through an email at the end of the project. Potentially even at a point a few months down the road... it's pretty easy to cobble together a little thank-you campaign to send out that asks for feedback, with a followup asking them to post it if you get back feedback that's good. I don't think enough business owners seriously ask customers for feedback. Even aside from review building, that stuff is huge for evolving your business in the right direction. If you don't ask, most people will just silently wander off and find someone else to do business with, or grit their teeth and work with you and never tell you about this one annoying thing that you could have changed.

The other main thing... spending a little time thinking about where you want reviews to go is worth it. I was just recently sitting down with a friend that's got a ton of Google reviews now in an industry that doesn't tend to get many, so we spent a little time together in Google analytics, looking at his citation lead sources and picking a few places to optimize and start sending reviews. Hopefully that'll take what's already working and turn it up to the next level.

I definitely need to get more organized about how I approach helping clients with review building though... definitely something I haven't focused on, and I know the right tools could really change how I help people. Just so much to do, so I haven't gotten around to focusing on that yet.
