Are Hashtags in Google My Business Posts STILL a Good Thing?

I went to Pubcon last year in Las Vegas. At one session one of the leaders said that overdoing hashtags was problematic in Google plus posts, especially when it came to keywords. The other leaders agreed. What does everyone know or think about this? I mean about hashtags in general, and also with keywords? Is over-optimization something we should be concerned about?

I don't think many people search hashtags on g+. It's more of a Twitter thing.

Thanks so much for your reply. I know they're very common in Twitter. What I'm asking is, if people use hashtags in Google My Business posts, as is often done, is there a risk of over-optimizing as I was warned a Pubcon. Has anyone heard of that?

    Hi Cathie,

Given the 'divorce' of Google+ Local from Google+ and how hard it is nowadays to find G+ pages, unless your clients have a lot of people following their pages already on G+, any type of Google+ posting is probably going to be a bit of a shot in the dark nowadays.

From a usability perspective, I know hashtags are not as common on Google+; as Joy said they seem to be a Twitter thing and definitely an Instagram thing. If I see Google+ posts with lots of hashtags I know they're probably being autoposted from one of those two sites.

From an over-optimising POV, I've not heard that before. Did the panel members give any examples of where they'd seen this happen? Or do you have names? It would be interesting to see how they structure their G+ posts in real life.
