    Hi All

    Hi All,

    Great forum!

I've been on the sidelines reading and learning for some time now.

Thought it was time to post, so here goes.

I have a client (dentist) who asked me the following question: "Hi, Would it be possible to put a review on google places, not google plus?"

Based on my understanding, all reviews must now be posted via G+. Am I correct in this assumption? Or, as the dentist thinks, can a reviewer choose to by pass G+ and leave a review on Google Places instead?

Thanking those that respond in advance.

    Best,

    -Ray

    Hi Ray,

Welcome to the community! Glad you have decided to jump into the action

To answer your question, yes, you need a G+ account in order to leave a review on a G+ Local AKA Google Places page.

    Great first question!

Hi Ray, Nice to meet you. One way that helps me explain it to clients is to explain that Google Places has evolved into Google+ Local. It is hard for everyone to make the switch in all of the new terms.

    Re: Hi All

    Howdy, Ray!

Just to answer your good question in my own way - in addition to what everyone else has said:

Yes, people need to have a Google+ account/page in order to write a review on a Google+Local page. What's a Google+Local page? Essentially the name du jour of a Google Places page.

A year from now, it will probably be much easier to explain all this to clients: by then, every "local" business's page will probably (finally) be a fully functional Google+ page, which will allow you to say very simply "People need a Google+ account in order to write a review on a Google+ page."

    Re: Hi All

    Hi Ray and welcome!

    To add my 2 cents...

There is only 1 local page that reviews can be left on. But there are different names and states for that page. Google Places is the old name BUT it's still the name on the business owner log in side. The consumer facing name of the page is Google+ Local. If the Dentist has merged or verified a Google+ business page then it's combined all together on one page. So whatever page has the "leave a review" option is the right place BUT some Dentists may have more than one page - one for practice and one in the Drs name.

But as others have said yes the patients need a G+ account to be able to leave a review.

It's all confusing right now. So if want to be sure you are steering him right, please post down in the help forum with a link to his page(s) and we can tell you specifically what all that Dentist has going.

    Hi Linda,

    Thanks for your feedback.

    Here is the dentist's G+ URL https://plus.google.com/106952248907...05/about?hl=en

    Appreciatively,

    Re: Hi All

    Hi Ray,

That page: https://plus.google.com/106952248907...05/about?hl=en is a Google Place page AKA Google+ Local page. That is where the reviews go and that's the page that ranks in search.

He also has a Google+ Business page here: https://plus.google.com/108997671534...ut?gl=us&hl=en That page is his social page and there is no review option.

It's possible to merge the 2 pages together, then he'll have one combined page with all the options together.

However it's ill advised to do that yet. We are in the middle of a major update and Google recommends leaving the pages separate and waiting for the update to be complete. Plus things are still pretty buggy.

So for now tell him the only place for reviews is that top link which is his Place page. The name of the public facing page changed to Google+ Local page but the business owner dashboard is still called Places, so it's just a little confusing - but for all intents and purposes it's still a Place page.
