Recover Lost Text When Posting or Replying to a Thread

Problem #1: Clicking on +Reply to Thread opens Quick Reply instead of Advanced Reply.

Resolved: I have modified the forum template so that clicking on +Reply to Thread now opens Advanced Reply.

Problem #2: If you are Replying to a thread using Quick Reply or Advanced Reply, and instead of clicking Post Quick Reply (Quick) or Submit Reply (Advanced) you scroll down to click on the large +Reply to Thread button, you are taken to a new blank advanced reply page and it appears you've lost any text you've just entered.

    Resolution:

    1. You should actually see a popup like this:

    Name: leave-or-stay.jpg
Views: 838
Size: 40.0 KB

In that case, simply click on Stay to avoid losing your text. Then click on the appropriate small button at the bottom right of the edit box.

    2. However, in testing this, it's clear that the popup warning does not always appear and you are faced with this.

    Name: blank-advanced-editor.jpg
Views: 1204
Size: 21.3 KB

To recover the lost text, notice the following at the lower left of the reply edit box:

    Name: restore-auto-saved-content.jpg
Views: 507
Size: 4.6 KB

vBulletin saves any text you are entering every 20 seconds, so if you click on that box, all or at least most of your text should automagically appear:

    Name: text-restored.jpg
Views: 625
Size: 24.3 KB

Re: Recover Lost Text When Posting or Replying to a Thread

Thanks so much for posting this so members know about our handy auto-save feature.

It's so frustrating to spend time typing a reply and then lose it.
Happens to me at the Google forum all the time.

The info David posted above also comes in handy if you lose power or accidentally close the window you are posting in or get distracted and surf elsewhere in the middle of a post.

It will save what you type and you can just re-post or start off where you left off by starting a new post and using the Restore Auto-Saved Content feature.
