Google webmaster tools showing links that I don't have.

Hi, I had a few links on squidoo and ezine that I ended up completely deleting the articles I had on there about 2 months ago. Google webmaster tools is still showing that I have links from those sites.

Is it doing this because google hasn't crawled those pages yet? Is there a way I can tell google to crawl them or somehow let them know I don't have links on that site anymore?

Go to your Google Webmaster Account and click on Google Index >> Remove URLs in the left hand navigation column for that site.

    https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/url-removal

Alternatively, you can use the Disavow Links tool at https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...nks-main?pli=1

    https://support.google.com/webmaster.../2648487?hl=en

    Download links to your site
    1. On the Webmaster Tools home page, click the site you want.
    2. On the Dashboard, click Search Traffic, and then click Links to Your Site.
    3. Under Who links the most, click More.
    4. Click Download more sample links. If you click Download latest links, you'll see dates as well.

Thanks for the reply. I can't do it the first way you said because you have to be the site owner and I do not own squidoo or ezine.

I always hear so much stuff about the disavow tool. Is it safe?

I would love google to naturally know that my links have been removed from those sites. When you try to go to the URL of the articles that my links were on, it gives you a 404 error. I'm assuming google hasn't crawled those pages yet but it is also hard to believe because squidoo and ezine are giant websites.

If the links are now 404s, you really don't need to do anything. Googlebot will find the 404s and eventually the links will drop out of the index.

If it's a "bad link" in some way and you are worried about the potential for hurting your rankings, then use the disavow tool.
