Trustpilot has always offered a free tier for people to leave reviews for companies. One advantage this has had is that Trustpilot participates in Google seller ratings with AdWords (https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/2375474) and recently has started appearing in the third party review counts.

A recent (9/23/2016) Google policy change in regards to Trustpilot greatly raises the review count and confirms this free opportunity for seller ratings is no longer possible, and may also explain why Trustpilot reviews have disappeared. Details in this comprehensive post in the Google Advertisers Community:

Thanks for sharing. This is really good info. I agree that seller ratings are easily biased since the business owner can simply choose who to send review requests to. As much as I dislike Yelp, they are still the primary review platform that has the most trustworthy reviews, in my opinion.
