Multiple Managers & Transfer Ownership Added to Local Google+ Business Pages

One of our eagle eyed members Ryan AKA OptimizePrime, let us know 3 days ago that now there is an option to add managers to your merged/verified or upgraded Local G+ Business page. (The one with the social features added).

That's the cool thing about tuning into this forum. Often members discover and share things here before they are officially announced by Google. Here is Ryan's post:

Then yesterday Jade let us know about the change and made an announcement in this thread at the Google forum. So here is the official scoop.

Starting on September 19, new Places dashboard users with upgraded local Google+ pages will be able to invite other users to manage the page. You can read more about admin roles for pages here.

Please note that only pages that have been upgraded to have social features will have this multiple manager functionality. Owners of eligible pages will be able to invite others to manage a page, or remove other managers.

To add a manager:
From the listing dashboard, click on the gear icon on the upper right and select Manage listing access.
Select Add Managers and enter in the email address of the desired new manager.
Please note that managers must accept the invitation via email before being able to manage a page.

To remove a manager:
From the listing dashboard, click on the gear icon on the upper right and select Manage listing access.
Click on the X associated with the person you’d like to remove.
Please note that removing a manager means that account will no longer be able to edit, post, or act as the page. That account’s former actions will remain intact.

To transfer ownership:
From your listing dashboard, click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of your screen and choose Manage listing access.
Click dropdown arrow on the card for the Manager you’d like to promote to Owner, and select Transfer ownership to...


Also the new dashboard has been rolled out to more countries.

"As of September 18, the new Places for Business dashboard will be rolling out to new users in Russia, India, Mexico, Ukraine, South Africa, Israel, Malaysia, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Slovakia, Korea, Egypt, Morocco, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Taiwan, Colombia, Chile, Hungary, Romania, the Philippines, Poland, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Kenya, and Macau."

Again I stress Google is still saying, don't merge/verify G+. Wait until Google updates your page.
But the info above is for those who have already merged or have been upgraded to G+.

What a super cool development! It seems so basic and took a while but what a huge improvement. Tip of the hat to Google.

We have a singular Google Places (+Local)account that has numerous business listings (different businesses)claimed that are still in the old dashboard.

We are being advised to set up new Google+ accounts in order to build Google+ Business Pages for smaller sub sets of the businesses in the separate Google Places account since we can now assign managers to the different business pages, thus letting clients access their Business page without seeing the other clients pages that are under the same account.

What potential issues do you see arising from having Places listings claimed in one account and Business pages built in another account? Oh, we are also being advised to verify the newly created Business pages, which ideally should merge the two pages, but I know Google is and has been advising against this.

I have done some of this in the past year with individual clients account (building Business Pages and Merging with Places pages) and each one I did was different than the one before in terms of ease and time it took for the two pages to actually merge, so I am a bit concerned at potential problems of doing this on a "mass" scale.

Oh man this is such a bad practice and can cause numerous problems.

1) All it takes is a couple violation and Google will sometimes suspend the entire account. Then ALL your clients, even ones that were totally clean get suspended and you can't get them back. Need to start over from scratch, lose rankings and reviews temporarily. All the new verifications, new images totally re-do from scratch.

2) Google is auto-upgrading all Place pages to G+ pages with social. How are your clients going to post to their G+ and manage their circles? You going to give all your clients your master password to get into your main account where they could mess with your other client's listings?

And yes Google is saying don't set up G+ pages and manually merge right now, so I'm not sure the best way to deal with this major problem you have.

Thank you for making me feel so good about our situation. :)

So say we go continue down the path of setting up Business pages under a separate account and we actually get lucky and they merge successfully. What is the impact once Google finally upgrades our Google Places account (which is under a separate account). Will we then end up with 2 business pages or will the original one overwrite the new one that is part of the upgrade?

Sorry didn't mean to make you feel bad. I've just stressed it in the past with so many agencies and have seen so many nightmares due to the practice.

No one knows for sure what will happen with some of these complicated situations. Which is why Google is saying wait for the auto-grade.

But I think that if you somehow end up with 2 G+ listings and there is no way to merge them and you DO have to delete 1 of them - you can't delete the new auto-upgraded G+ listing because that would delete the Place page too.

I'd almost be tempted to suggest to start gradually deleting listings from your master account one by one as you have time. Then immediately set up new Place page in a new single client account, ensuring you use the same NAP. I've never done it but I've heard consultants say if you do it right you sometimes don't lose reviews and ranking. And now we have the new option to ask Google to move reviews if you do lose them.

Then you should get the new dash which could mean you'd get upgraded to G+ faster.

Just a thought.

Well, recently I did reclaim a listing that was in this master account under a business specific account and then deleted the duplicate from the master account. (Actually this was one you helped me with a couple of months back) In this case, we did keep all of the reviews and everything and was able to merge the business page with it which was already created under that business specific account, but the merge took a while and I wasn't so sure it was going to happen.

Plus keep in mind now with the new dash, you can't reclaim a listing that's already claimed so you would need to delete from account. Then claim in new.

Linda, I was testing this out today. With the new dash, you CAN claim a page that is already claimed, as long as it's currently claimed in the old style dashboard and NOT the new style dashboard. If a page is claimed in the new dashboard, then you won't be able to re-claim in different new style places dashboard.

I thought this was very interesting and it actually makes sense since the old dashboard is going away.

Thanks Colan.

I had the same experience recently too when I reclaimed that listing from our master account (old dash) into a new business specific account (new dash).

So just curious...what if a listing is claimed in the new dashboard and the login is eventually lost or the person who managed that leaves the company. How would one go about re-gaining access to that listing?

Thanks Colan, interesting. I had understood it was more of a back end pipeline change that sort of coincided with the new dash coming out. Didn't realize it was totally new dash dependent.
