If a financial planning firm has a physical office, do we need to create service area pages on the website since they are not a purely home services-based business?

Depends on if there are location specific searches you want to show up for that the website is not showing up for already. For example, if you are a national brand and want to rank organically in different cities across the country you will likely want service area pages. I found this example ranking organically in city near me, though this business is located in Colorado Find the Top Financial Advisors Serving Bridgeport, CT

If they are a smaller business and are only looking to rank locally, you may be able to get away with not having service area pages and just focus on other types of pages to give potential customers answers to questions they are searching for.
