Hello guys,

Our client has geneva based managed it company. His only concern is that people searching in English will search for Geneva. People searching in French will choose Genève. So if we have an English term it is most likely that people will write Geneva and will miss the search for the company.

Right now we have optimized entire website content considering the Genève.

He wants us to focus both the terms. How can we help them?

I appreciate thought on this.

It would be good to eventually have a site for both languages if the volume for each language warrants it. Also, I think Google is smart enough to pick up on this.

Have you seen any indication yet that Google isn't picking up on it?

Hi @JoshuaMackens

Thank you for the suggestions. I agree with you, both the keywords have different volume based on their locations.

Look at the search volume: France: Genève: 40,500 Geneva: 6600 US: Genève: 3600 Geneva: 49,000

I've also checked in Google analytic under language, users came to our website using the English term. And ranking for both the terms have a huge difference.

He would like to rank for France: Genève and US: Geneva. I think we should go with both the language.

Hi Vivek, I do not think it is going to make a difference whether you use Geneva or Genève. These words are not treated as individual keywords by Google but give and geo indication to Google. If you have a Local Business listing in Genève, the site will rank for both Genève and Geneva words in content (if proper NAP consistency is maintained).
Hi @Paul Kargo

I appreciate your thought.

Yes, it gives a geo indication to Google. We have done pretty much good job in local listing and proper NAP consistency. And, they have an awesome result for Genève, Switzerland. Along with the Genève, he would also like to rank for US, Geneva. I believe that creating two different languages would work from him.

Let me know if you would like to suggest anything else.

Are you looking to rank for Geneva in USA or keyword "Geneva" in Switzerland?
